केंद्र सरकार द्वारा "एक राष्ट्र, एक चुनाव" से जुड़ी संभावनाओं को तेज़ी से तलाशने के लिए पूर्व राष्ट्रपति रामनाथ कोविंद की अध्यक्षता में एक समिति का गठन किया है। सत्ता पक्ष से जुड़े नेताओं द्वारा जहां इस कदम को सराहनीय कहा जा रहा है, वहीं विपक्षी नेताओं ने इसपर हमला किया है। बता दें कि एक राष्ट्र, एक चुनाव लागू होने से लोकसभा और राज्य के चुनाव एक साथ होंगे।
केंद्रीय संसदीय कार्य मंत्री प्रह्लाद जोशी ने शुक्रवार को इसकी पुष्टि करते हुए कहा, "फिलहाल एक कमेटी का गठन किया गया है। कमेटी की रिपोर्ट आएगी जिस पर चर्चा होगी। संसद परिपक्व है और चर्चा होगी, घबराने की जरूरत नहीं है। भारत को लोकतंत्र की जननी कहा जाता है, यहां विकास हुआ है। मैं संसद के विशेष सत्र के एजेंडे पर चर्चा करूंगा।''

महाराष्ट्र मुख्यमंत्री एकनाथ शिंदे ने कहा, "मैं 'एक राष्ट्र, एक चुनाव' का स्वागत करता हूं। इससे चुनाव पर खर्च होने वाला पैसा बचेगा और उस पैसे का इस्तेमाल कल्याणकारी योजनाओं में किया जा सकेगा। लोगों ने 2024 में फिर से पीएम मोदी को चुनने का फैसला किया है।"

'वन नेशन, वन इलेक्शन' समिति के अध्यक्ष के रूप में पूर्व राष्ट्रपति राम नाथ कोविन्द की नियुक्ति पर पंजाब के मंत्री हरपाल सिंह चीमा ने कहा, "भारत एक लोकतांत्रिक देश है और इसे लागू करना संभव नहीं है। भाजपा देश को नष्ट करना चाहती है। यह देश के संविधान के लिए खतरनाक है। ऐसा नहीं किया जाना चाहिए।"

कांग्रेस सांसद प्रमोद तिवारी कहते हैं, ''मैं यह पहली बार देख रहा हूं कि किसी पूर्व राष्ट्रपति को सरकार द्वारा गठित समिति का अध्यक्ष बनाया गया है। पूर्व मुख्य न्यायाधीश और एससी के पूर्व न्यायाधीश हो सकते थे। उन्होंने राष्ट्रपति पद की गरिमा समाप्त कर दी क्योंकि (नये संसद भवन का) उद्घाटन राष्ट्रपति के बजाय प्रधानमंत्री ने किया। अब ऐसा करके वे गलत परंपरा स्थापित कर रहे हैं।"

सरकार द्वारा 18 सितंबर से 22 सितंबर तक संसद का विशेष सत्र बुलाए जाने के एक दिन बाद यह कदम सामने आया है कि एक समिति का गठन हुआ है। सरकार ने हालांकि संसद के विशेष सत्र का एजेंडा घोषित नहीं किया है। गौरतलब है कि 2014 से ही भाजपा एक राष्ट्र, एक चुनाव पर चर्चा करती आई है।
बता दें कि दिसंबर 2022 में विधि आयोग ने देश में एक साथ चुनाव कराने के प्रस्ताव पर राजनीतिक दलों, भारत के चुनाव आयोग, नौकरशाहों और अन्य विशेषज्ञों की राय मांगी थी। लाज़मी है कि अब राष्ट्रपति कोविन्द के नेतृत्व में नवगठित समिति के साथ यह उम्मीद है कि सरकार इस प्रस्ताव पर तेजी से काम करेगी।
